What is "Visual Storytelling"?

     Well.... it's a "Visual Narrative". 

               It is a story told primarily through the use of visual media.

 The story may be told using Art, still photography, illustration, sculpture, or video, and can be enhanced with graphics, music, voice and other audio.

 Some consumers of reborn dolls use them to cope with their grief over a lost child as it becomes a memory reborn. Others look to reborns as a portrait doll of a grown child.... while other collect reborns as they would regular dolls. These dolls are sometimes played with as if they are an infant.

Some begin collecting because they’ve read about Alzheimer's doll therapy as it is a known resource in working with dementia patients. Researchers tell us that using a Teddy Bear or a Baby Doll can be a very effective way for a person with Alzheimer's or any kind of dementia to decrease stress and agitation.

 For me... it’s a combination of the above. I attended a performing Art high school, majoring in Fine Art, later went on to attend the Ontario College of Art.

 A few years ago, I bought two Ashton Drake dolls for a beloved with the hope of helping with her diminishing memory... and when I saw them... (although VERY beautiful), I was disappointed at the lack of fine details, and thought... “ohhh !? I can paint better than that!” I am also among the many who haven't been blessed with having their own child... so this art form allows me to create... cuddle and have them move on to be cared for by someone else.

 For those alarmed, creeped out, or uncomfortable about reborns, all I can say is “be respectful”. If it isn’t your thing, that’s okay.

 Everyone has their story and their own journey... I am happy to be part of yours no matter your reason for loving or  wanting a reborn.
